Peer Mentoring

• Peer Mentoring fosters an inclusive school culture in which all student's contributions are encouraged and valued.
• Friendships are formed that often last well beyond the school years.
• CLPE staff are in the schools on a regular basis to work with leaders of the school to provide inclusion awareness, disability training, and support.
• Staff recruit leaders to act as mentors and role models for inclusion.
• Mentors are matched with students with a disability to promote inclusion in school activities, school events, school teams, sports, clubs, fashion shows, carnivals, etc.
• Staff act as an on-site resource for staff, students and families to provide strategies and guidance and help maintain friendships that are formed.
• CLPE staff also support mentors and students to expand peer mentoring beyond the walls of the school.
• Students are included in local recreational activities, youth groups, afterschool events, fitness clubs, etc.
