World Down Syndrome Day and Rock Your Socks

March 21st was World Down Syndrome Day as proclaimed by the United Nations. Community Living Prince Edward joined in the celebration and decided to "Rock your Socks" to spread the message that that across all areas of life, such as personal development and relationships, education, healthcare, work, recreation and citizenship, ALL people with Down syndrome must be included on a full and equal basis with others. The goal of this campaign is to empower people with Down syndrome and their support networks to advocate together for these opportunities.

At 3:30 p.m. on the 21st, CLPE invited people we serve, families, team members, and community partners to gather in the parking lot at 67 King St. to show off their wildest and most colourful socks in a photo op to raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day. After the event, much of the group gathered for cider in the Board Room, with prizes given for the most colorful and outrageous socks.

The choice to show off these socks is intended to start conversations, raise awareness and to remind us all how we can support our mission to facilitate the full participation, inclusion, and citizenship of people with an intellectual disability in the life of the community. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Rock Your Socks campaign!
