Family Engagement Network Dr. Leighton Jay and Conscious Care

Families were invited to attend a special night at the Waring House to hear guest speaker Leighton Jay share his journey as a parent of a child with a developmental disability.  He offered families a fresh look at how to support and guide a person to their full potential and sometimes that means getting out of the way as a parent and believing in the possibilities.

Community Living Prince Edward was chosen to participate in a research project for Conscious Care and Support - a new approach to providing people with optimal supports and helping to manage emotions and behaviours of workers and the people supported.  This began in September 2017 and parents were invited to not only attend the introductory session but some participated in the 4-week course.  It was felt that more families should be aware of this new approach so the Family Engagement Network invited Peter Marks and Addie McVicker to speak at a network meeting in October.  We had a great turn out and families shared that this information was so valuable to help people have better and more fulfilling lives.  The network is excited to host another session with Peter and Addie in the spring.
