It is the policy of Community Living Prince Edward to have a land acknowledgment statement as a meaningful practice that recognizes and respects the Indigenous peoples as the traditional stewards of the land on which we live and work. It acknowledges the enduring relationship between Indigenous communities and their ancestral territories. By including a land acknowledgment, we demonstrate a commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity, awareness, and reconciliation. It is a step towards honoring Indigenous histories, cultures, and contributions, while also acknowledging the need for meaningful action to build stronger relationships with Indigenous communities.
Land Acknowledgment Statement
Let us begin by acknowledging the Indigenous people’s and their traditional lands, not only here, but across all lands where we live, work and gather. As we reflect on our shared responsibility to be stewards of these lands, it is essential to recognize that this duty belongs to all communities, to listen, learn and take meaningful action. Together, we will work towards a future where respect, and mutual understanding are at the hear of our relationship with both the land and each other.
