HIRING NOW - Summer Students – Direct Support Professionals

We’re Community Living Prince Edward and since 1965 we’ve championed inclusion here in the County. Our team of 160+ professionals provide outstanding supports and services to people who live with an intellectual disability and their families throughout Prince Edward County. Every day, we support people to live with dignity, participate in our community and feel respected as valued citizens.

Right now, we’re hiring Summer Student Direct Support Professionals for eight-week (30 hours/week) summer positions in Picton, Ontario. Please note: the recruitment of these positions is dependent on confirmation of summer student grant funding.

As a summer student, you’ll help adults with disabilities build life experiences, volunteer and get hired in the community. Learn from experienced professionals and help County youth thrive, participate and grow this summer!

Your Responsibilities:

  • Building community awareness and promoting the value of inclusive employment, volunteerism as well as recreational activities
  • Identifying potential opportunities for inclusion and create a work plan to bring these opportunities to life
  • Assisting people in meeting their individual learning objectives, preparing for jobs and volunteering as well as developing new skills
  • Assisting with creating a variety of augmentative communication tools and strategies for people with an intellectual disability
  • Liaising with community partners to help ensure successful placements and identify any follow-up activities
  • Coordinating workshops as well as professional growth and development activities focussed on work and employment related matters
  • Assisting people, we serve to navigate the local transit system and to develop enhanced independent travel skills.
  • Assisting College Readiness participants with developing their skills and portfolios
  • Recognizing and reporting any Health and Safety issues requiring attention

HIRING NOW - Two Direct Support Professionals - Full Time Residential

We’re Community Living Prince Edward and since 1965 we’ve championed inclusion here in the County. In the role of Direct Support Professional – Full Time Residential you’ll work a combination of day and night shifts. If you want to join a talented team, we’d like to hear from you.

This position is an integral part of a team that’s dedicated to supporting people with an intellectual disability who have strong communications skills with American Sign Language. In this role, you’ll assist people to develop independent living skills and access community resources. During each shift, you will enhance the quality of life for people we support by fostering their community connections, personal relationships and personal goal attainments.

About You
Well-known as a successful collaborator, you are a graduate of a relevant Human Services degree or diploma program. You can demonstrate your ability to use a variety of communication modes, including experience with American Sign Language. We will partner with the successful incumbents to build on the effective communication skills they currently have to become more efficient in American Sign Language.  

As well, you have experience writing plans of support and supporting people with developing their individual plans of support. Using a holistic approach, you are experienced in supporting people to manage their overall and specific health support needs.

Compensation

  • Entry $29.99/hour
  • Access to the Group Benefits Plan and a Group RRSP Plan

Hours

  • 80 hours over two (2) weeks 
  • This position requires the incumbent to primarily work eight (8) hours shifts, that will be scheduled both on weekends and weekdays.
  • Days of work will vary based on service needs.        

Your Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating Person Directed Planning and supporting people to develop strategies that lead to the attainment of individual goals.
  • Using tools to support people to develop personal goals leading to increased independence.
  • Developing teaching tools that lead to increased independence and skills.
  • Using technology to promote independence, increase communication and autonomy.
  • Creative problem solving and decision making. 
  • Acting as an ambassador for inclusion and supporting people to participate fully in their community, build meaningful connections and take on valued social roles.
  • Facilitating and actively supporting people to connect to services and community resources based on personal preference and needs.
  • Advocating for the people you support. 
  • Communicating effectively with families, community partners and community members.
  • Supporting people who are transitioning from their family home to their own home within Community Living Prince Edward as a stepping stone to living independently.
  • Assisting with and maintain administrative tasks as required by the both the people we serve and assigned duties in keeping with the policies/procedures and practices of the organization.
  • Assisting with household maintenance tasks as outlined policies/procedures and practices of the organization.
  • Bringing to life our values, vision and mission: Dedicated to supporting people with intellectual disabilities and their families to explore possibilities, pursue opportunities, make choices, and live the life they choose.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Strong communication skills with American Sign Language – at least completion and  experience with Level 1
  • Graduate of a Direct Support Worker (DSW), Social Service Worker (SSW), (BST), Justice Worker or other relevant Human Services degree/diploma
  • Current CPR & First Aid and CPI Certificates
  • Applied Medications Certificate or completed training deemed equivalent by the employer
  • Valid Full G Drivers Licence & access to a reliable vehicle
  • Clear Vulnerable Persons Sector Check
  • Ability to demonstrate consistent attendance at work
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative be innovative and think outside-the-box.
  • Able to present confirmation documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Ability to communicate with people both internal and external to the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Full-time Individualized Funding and Services Supervisor

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Support & Services, you will play a pivotal role in guiding people we serve, and families through the process of developing individualized funding plans, ensuring that agreements and that contracts are thoughtfully designed to maximize the utilization of available resources and are responsive to people’s personal goals with a focus on improving quality of life. This includes educating and empowering people we serve, their families, and employees about the intricacies of funding options. Your expertise in researching various funding streams, crafting compelling funding proposals, and a deep understanding of individualized funding mechanisms will equip you for this essential role. Additional responsibilities will include overseeing, coaching and guiding teams of direct support professionals, to build rapport, establish strategies to support the overall well-being of people we serve with complex needs living in 24-hour staff supported homes.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and monitoring individual budget and agreements with people we serve and families

  • Working with employee teams on creative planning and solutions for individualized funding utilization

  • Monitoring and auditing financial documents

  • Using a range of digital tools to track allocation of resources, expenditures and revenues

  • Fostering respectful and supportive working relationships within and across teams, with external partners, and within the broader community.

  • Providing clear leadership through coaching, mentoring, and the development of individual employee and team capacity.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, and the ability to make decisions, and develop plans when managing crisis situations.

  • Promoting positive labor relations and team engagement

  • Providing after-hours on-call support with employees we serve, and teams on a rotating basis.

The successful candidate will possess advanced problem-solving and negotiation skills, with the ability to creatively collaborate with a diverse range of community partners.  You will have demonstrated proficiency with computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft office, excel, and SharePoint. Your capacity to foster relationships and navigate financial scenarios will be vital in driving positive outcomes for people and families we serve.

We’re seeking an experienced Supervisor, Supports & Services to join our leadership team.

Reporting to our Director, Accommodations you will take a leadership role in overseeing plans and the coordination and implementation of a wide range of services provided by the team that supports adults, with dual diagnosis, mental health, and behavioural support challenges to live their best possible life. This role is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of Community Living Prince Edward’s innovative, flexible and responsive person-centred services.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Overseeing, coaching and guiding teams of direct support professionals, to build rapport, establish strategies to support the overall well-being of people we serve with complex needs living in 24-hour staff supported homes.
  • Understanding the complexities of working with a multi-disciplinary team including the development and implementation of plans of support to promote overall well-being, community engagement, attainment of personal goals, and positive approaches to behavior prevention and intervention.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and oversee the implementation of clinical recommendations and services.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, and the ability to make decisions, and develop plans when managing crisis situations.
  • An understanding of supporting people through the judicial system would be an asset.
  • Ensure a high level of quality services, while also being responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation, QAM requirements and organizational policies and procedures.

We’re Looking For

  • Dynamic leadership, interpersonal and communications skills as well as excellent organizational and teamwork skills
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Services field and a solid understanding of the Community Living movement and its values.
  • Experience creating complex plans of support with people throughout life transitions.
  • A strong collaborator who is experienced at fostering a community first approach with local partners.
  • Proven ability to lead teams to support people with the development of plans that foster the attainment of personal goals to improve quality of life.
  • A thorough understanding of the evolving social services industry as well as a well-rounded network of community resources which would foster a wraparound approach to complex support needs.
  • At least four (4) years of progressively responsible positions within the developmental services sector; and at least two (2) years in a supervisory role, ideally, experience fostering positive labor relations within a unionized environment.
  • An individual who thrives when helping others, along with the ability to make good decisions, and to solve problems in the moment.
