HIRING NOW - Direct Support Professional / Overnight Sleep Supports Contract

We’re Community Living Prince Edward and since 1965 we’ve championed inclusion here in the County. As a Direct Support Professional - Overnight Sleep Supports contract employee, you’ll join our growing non-profit. If working five nights a week is of interest to you, we’d like to hear from you.
This position is part of a team that supports people who live in a community home and are transitioning to more independent living arrangements. This sleep night role runs from Sunday to Thursday inclusive.
In this role, you’ll ensure the home is secure and people are safe when you arrive and then sleep for the remainder of the night. You will be wakened as necessary if there is a building, or personal emergency or concern.
About You
You are a successful collaborator who is a graduate of a relevant Human Services degree or diploma program. In this role, you’ll ensure the home is secure and people are safe when you arrive and then sleep for the remainder of the night. You will be wakened as necessary if there is a building, or personal emergency or concern.
Compensation
- Awake hours are 10:30 pm to 11:00 pm; sleep hours are 11:00 pm to 7:00 am.
- Entry $29.99/hour – paid for the awake shift portion of the shift
- Lump sum of $140.00 – for the sleep shift hours
Your Responsibilities:
- To arrive at work at 10:30 pm and ensure that everyone is safe and settled for the evening, or you are aware of their evening plans.
- To be available to be wakened in the event that a person living in their home needs your assistance between 11:00 pm and 07:00 am and to respond to their requests as required.
- To assist people living in their home who ask for guidance getting ready for their day.
- To assist your teammate arriving in the morning with necessary information sharing.
- Facilitating Person Directed Planning and developing strategies that lead to the attainment of individual goals.
- Assist with and maintain administrative tasks as required by the people we serve and assigned duties in keeping with the policies/procedures and practices of the organization. Assist with household maintenance tasks as outlined policies/procedures and practices of the organization.
- Bringing to life our values, vision and mission: Dedicated to supporting people with intellectual disabilities and their families to explore possibilities, pursue opportunities, make choices, and live the life they choose.
Who we’re looking for:
- Graduate of a Direct Support Worker (DSW), Social Service Worker (SSW), Child & Youth Worker (CYW) (BST), Justice Worker or other relevant Human Services degree/diploma
- Current CPR & First Aid and CPI Certificates
- Applied Medications Certificate or completed training deemed equivalent by the employer
- Valid Full G Drivers Licence & access to a reliable vehicle
- Clear Vulnerable Persons Sector Check
- Ability to demonstrate consistent attendance at work
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative be innovative and think outside-the-box.
- Able to present confirmation documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (2 doses)
- Ability to communicate with people both internal and external to the organization.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

As a Full Time Youth Support Worker, you’ll support youth and young adults who live with an intellectual disability to make successful transitions from school to post-secondary life. In this empowering position, your work will support young people to succeed in employment, volunteering, education, leisure, social, skill development as well as transitions to adult services and greater independence.
About You: You are a successful collaborator who has at least two (2) years of experience working with youth who live with an intellectual disability and their families, along with two (2) years of planning and service delivery experience. In this permanent, Full Time role with Benefits, you’ll report to the Supervisor, Supports and Services. An overview of your responsibilities can be found below:
Your Skills:
- Advocating for others, creative problem solving & decision making, collaboration, fostering independence in others, initiative, interpersonal relations & respect and personal resilience.
- Prompt, effective and relevant service delivery to the person’s and their family’s desires and promotes respect, safety and dignity for an improved quality of life.
Your Responsibilities:
- Liaising and advocating on behalf of youth and their families with their school; supporting the transition from high school to community; facilitating inclusion, etc.
- Facilitating Transition Solutions Planning and enabling youth and young adults to gain lived experience in preparation for community life after school.
- Creating and implementing special interest and educational sessions curriculum.
- Facilitating Ambassador for Inclusion Training with student leaders, school personnel and community partners.
- Connecting with businesses and community partners to facilitate inclusive employment, volunteerism as well as social roles for youth and young adults inclusive of providing guidance and coaching supports.
- Coordinating with your supervisor to develop and implement employment services and training opportunities such as Students at Work and Co-op with a Purpose.
- Assisting youth with the transition to post-secondary education including applying for bursaries.
- Fostering independence and promoting the development of independent living skills and facilitating a variety of Workshop Series.
- Facilitating and actively supporting people to connect to services and community resources based on personal preference and needs.
- Assisting youth and their families to access funding, completing applications and respite with a purpose.
- Contributing to building community awareness about the needs of people with disabilities and/or Community Living Prince Edward by giving presentations, attending resource fairs, forums and creating displays, etc.

What we’re looking for:

About Your Role
In this role, you will...
- Be directly responsible for enhancing the quality of life of people who live with an intellectual disability
- Assist people with developing and achieving their Person Directed Plans, goals and outcomes
- Support people with independent living in the areas such as budgeting, cooking, home maintenance, grocery shopping, etc. while promoting independence
- Assist people to maintain their personal residence while promoting independence. i.e. house, apartment, etc.
- Implement plans and strategies to connect people to community activities and events in alignment with their personal outcome measures inclusive of cultural, spiritual, recreational, leisure, educational, employment and community activities as identified by the person
- Promote healthy lifestyles and assists people with medical, dental and other professional appointments as directed by the person and/or their family
- Assist people and directly participate, as required, with people in volunteerism, social, cultural, spiritual, recreational, leisure, educational and community activities which align with their personal outcome measures and goals.
- Work co-operatively with community partners to engage people we serve in the life of the community inclusive of medical professionals, landlords, legal professionals, employers etc.
Hours of work will be flexible hours including days, evenings and weekends based on the needs of people we support.
