Mission Statement

Community Living Prince Edward is a voluntary membership organization united by our commitment to a common purpose:

We exist to facilitate the full participation, inclusion, and citizenship of people with an intellectual disability in the life of the community.

This mission is addressed in the context of both advocacy activities and service provision.

Goal & Vision

The goal of Community Living Prince Edward is “That all persons live in a state of dignity, share in all elements of living in the community, and have the opportunity to participate effectively.”

This goal envisions a society in which the innate value of each one of its people is honored and protected. The dignity and self-respect that its people enjoy in their respective communities are the result of sharing and shouldering the responsibility of welcoming and supporting all members of the community without discrimination.

Values

Community Living envisions a society where people who have an intellectual disability belong and feel respected. This means that people who have an intellectual disability:

  • Live in neighborhoods of choice
  • Go to neighborhood schools
  • Work at real jobs for actual pay
  • Participate and contribute through volunteer, recreation, and leisure activities.
  • Are valued citizens
  • Have natural support networks inclusive of friends and family
