Golfers hit the greens to help with Home of My Own project

Swing. Sip. Sample. Repeat. That’s  what golfers did at Wellington on the Lake Golf Course in support of Community Living Prince Edward on June 8.

Since 2015, funds generated by the ‘Time for Nine - Wine and Dine’ golf tournament go to support people who live with intellectual disabilities to achieve personal outcomes, as well as create quality housing that is safe and affordable in the community.

“We’re working on a new housing project called ‘Gear Up for a Home of My Own’,” said Susan Treverton, Executive Director, Community Living Prince Edward. “This unique housing model will allow the people we serve to move to more independent and affordable housing within their community. Proceeds from our tournament are foundational to the success of projects like this.”

A couple of brief downpours and lingering smoke didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of golfers, sponsors, partners and volunteers.

“We were overwhelmed with support. Not only was the event sold out, but we were delighted that more than 55 local businesses decided to sponsor or partner with us,” added Treverton. “The opportunity to enjoy delicious locally made food and beverages at each of the nine holes is something golfers tell us they look forward to each year.”

Each June, the organization brings locals together in support of people with intellectual disabilities. The goal of this annual charity golf tournament is simple - to support Community Living Prince Edward’s mission to facilitate the full participation, inclusion and citizenship of people with an intellectual disability in the life of Prince Edward County.

The contributions of sponsors and partners to the annual charity golf tournament are deeply appreciated by the organization.
