Sydney Kerr, Career Edge - Youth Habilitation Quinte

Sydney Kerr of Career Edge Picton confirms that partnering with Community Living Prince Edward is making a world of difference in many people’s lives.

The two organizations have worked together for more than a decade. Base 31, Giant Tiger, Tim Horton’s, and Home Hardware are just a few local employers that have hired staff because of this collaborative partnership.

Communication between the two organizations is critical when supporting people to secure employment. Sydney shares, “Our goal is to provide wrap-around support to people who are looking for work. As well, if we know of a service or support at Community Living that could benefit a job seeker, we let people know.”

To help people get ready for employment, Sydney conducts one-hour workshops. She works closely with Community Living Prince Edward team members who work with youth between the ages of 15 and 30. She notes, “Youth In Transition employees at Community Living Prince Edward is easy to work with - they truly want the best outcomes for the people that they support. It’s a pleasure to collaborate with Ashley Card and Brandy Wilkes.”

Career Edge workshops cover all the basics for job seekers. From basic life skills to interviewing to understanding the workplace, Career Edge provides individuals and small groups with the information they need to succeed on the job.

“We also provide support with regards to mental health in the workplace, such as managing your feelings as a job seeker and how to handle new situations. Our pre-employment workshops help people gain confidence by talking about fears and insecurities.”

Sydney shares, “We know that we’re all part of the same interconnected team.” Working with Career Edge is just one of the ways Community Living Prince Edward team members are helping people achieve their goals here in the County.
